In addition to his pastoral work, our parish priest has spent the better part of his professional life teaching college and researching the history of the Church and the civilization she has influenced, Christendom. Below are a few projects he conducts to bring his scholarly research into the life of our modern educated public.

Paradise and Utopia: Reflections on the Rise and Fall of Christendom (Podcast)

Paradise and Utopia is an audio and occasionally video podcast hosted by Ancient Faith Radio that explores the history of the rise and fall of Christendom from Pentecost to postmodernism. It has been running for three years now, and Fr. John is almost half way through it!

Paradise and Utopia: Reflections on Christendom and Modern Culture (Internet Blog)

Father John also produces a written blog entitled Paradise and Utopia that explores Christendom in modern times. It is aimed at a primarily non-Orthodox and even non-Christian audience and addresses questions such as the rise of atheism and the historical problems of secularization in the culture of America and the west.

The Making of Holy Russia: The Orthodox Church and Russian Nationalism before the Revolution (Book)

Have you ever wondered why a famous author like Dostoevsky and others have thought that Russia must be a Christian nation, or why political leaders in Moscow today turn to the Orthodox Church for support? Father John is the author of a book on the history of the Orthodox Church in Russia before the Revolution of 1917. It tries to help the reader understand why Orthodoxy is so important in the identity of one of Christendom's greatest civilizations. It is available online and at our parish bookstore.
